It all started on a day like Friday the 13th. It was a bright and sunny morning, so I picked out my favorite pink dress and shiny black ballet shoes. Mom told me I needed to hurry up before I would be late for the bus. "HONK! HONK!!!", I heard from my bedroom window. "Oh no! Mom, I'm not ready yet!" I screamed from upstairs. It was too late. As mom ran out the door to stop the bus driver, he was already down the street.

Mom was mad that I missed the bus, so I said sorry and hopped into the car. She was going to be running late for work now. On the ride to school, I said nothing more because I felt guilty for taking so long to get dressed. When we got to the front of my school, I whispered "Bye" in my quietest voice and ran towards the doors.

After I got inside, I looked back and saw mom blow me a kiss. My mom is the best. I grabbed a late pass from the nice lady in the front office and went straight to class. Since I was late, I had to sit behind Curly Sue and her big curly hair. During math I could barely see the board and her hair kept falling on my desk. I tried to scoot it over, but nothing worked.

Not being able to see the board, I chose to stare out the window. To my surprise, there was a big black cat perched on the tree branch just outside the class. I rubbed my eyes twice to make sure I saw correctly. The cat was fluffy and had bright green eyes. I couldn't help notice as they were staring right back at me.

After an eternity of having a staring contest, he jumped from the branch and I couldn't see him anymore. "Sophie, what might be the answer to this problem?", Mrs. Angela asked. Caught off guard I didn't know what to say. I think she was talking about comparing fractions, my least favorite subject. I said the first thing that came to mind, "Umm, 1/2..." It sounded more like a question than an answer.

I could tell my answer was wrong because of her face and she knew I was not paying attention so she did what any mean teacher would do, she sent me to the principal's office. Embarrassed and cherry red in the cheeks, I grabbed my backpack and walked towards the door. I could hear people giggle and point, making me walk a little faster. Today was turning out to be the worse day EVER!!!

Next, I was sitting across from our principal. He was an old grumpy man. He wore little glasses and had a big belly popping out from under his suit. "Miss Sophie, why are you in my office today? You're a great student!", he said in a surprised voice. Not wanting to admit I wasn't paying attention in class, I just shrugged my shoulders up. After about 10 minutes of a lecture, he told me to go back to class.
