Life of Granite
One day, Granite was trying to remember how he had been formed. He was curious as to why and how he looked different compared to his other friends. Unfortunately, none of them had an answer for him.
Eventually, Granite could no longer take the curiosity. He asked his parents and they said that he was formed from extreme temperatures and pressures. Fortunately, their first home was inside a volcano, which is a great area that contains high temperatures and low pressure. Perfect for magma formation.
One day, the Magma got really hot and began melting everything in its sights. After a while, it finally cooled down, but what was left was not magma anymore. It was a hard, coarse grained, crystalline rock underneath the earth's crust. This is how Granite was made
Journey of Sandstone
As a young child, sandstone spent much of his time traveling. Sometimes flying in the wind and other times he would be in the water. Over time, he became too big to fly or swim any longer because of the sediments that had added on to him.
The reason he became so big was due to compaction and cementation of all the particles that he picked up along his journey, forming on big rock. This is how sandstone came to be.
The Metamorphic Rock
The cool thing about metamorphic rocks is that they have many ancestors. They all came from a previous sedimentary or igneous rock. The reason they changed was at one point they were exposed to extreme temperatures and pressures.
When they are exposed to these types of conditions, the elements can move or morph into something new. This is why metamorphic rocks look as if someone squished them. If the rock had melted from the extreme temperatures, then it would be considered an igneous rock and not metamorphic.
