Prologue
For many years now, I have heard strange noises coming from the neighboring house. I say ' the neighboring house' and not 'my neighbor's house', because nobody lives there anymore. It's basically a massive scrapyard. But that still doesn't explain what I'm about to tell you: scratching noises; shuffling noises; bumping noises. I have tried to see what's happening there, but every time, nobody answers the
door. Until one day I see an low open window. This is my chance...
Chapter one
I have prepared everything for the journey. Torches, ropes, food and water, and even a plastic toy shield I got. (OK, so It's not the best thing I could use to defend myself with, but It's better than nothing!). Without waiting any longer, I crept in.
The house was just as I expected it to be like: Overgrown, dusty and silent. I looked around the house for a while. All the time, expecting to be jump-scared by a creepy doll or something. But that didn't happen. Since the sun was setting (and the torch was only to be used if I was locked in), I decided to quit while I'm ahead. Or at least, still alive.
Just then, I heard floorboards creaking above me. I jumped. Surely someone can't be living in this place?
Holding my breath, I climbed up what was left of the stairs. The sound was coming from a room. Assuming it wasn't locked, I turned the handle, and went in
I can hardly remember what happened to me after that. As soon as I went in, I was met with what appeared to be a teenage girl. She was pale and wore torn clothes. Without thinking, or even changing her blank face, she grabbed a baseball bat and attempted to hit be on the head with it. Terrified, I ran into the room. She followed and chased me. Desperately, I leaped out of the window...
All of this, of course, happened in seconds. But it seemed like an age for me...
Somewhere between awake and asleep, I felt a strange silky cloth under me. Strange. I don't remember my matters being so smooth. I listen closely, only to hear fast murmuring voices and a faint high-pitched noise. I wake up to see a blinding light above me. I was in a hospital. Of course I was.
The memories of what happened came flooding back to me. The girl. The bat. me jumping.
"Excuse me, when am I going to go?" I asked, hoping not to sound too rude.
"What's the rush?" The nurse replied.
"Nothing..."
A couple of minutes later, the nurse left to 'Check on something'. This was my chance. Of course, I wasn't going to escape, but I wanted to call the police.(Not 999, just the police). I shielded my phone, making sure that if somebody comes they won't realize I'm calling anyone. Soon, I get a familiar crackle..
"Hello, why have you called?"
"I have noticed something suspicious on the house right of DI4 YQM..."
"What have you 'noticed'"
"The lights keep flashing on and off, and I hear strange noises. But nobody lives there..."
"OK, I'll see what I can do..."
Finally, I get home. Although there's one thing that kept bothering me. The police officer said he would be back to 'tell me what's going on' . But still- There was no answer! Anyway, I wasn't going back in that place again! I just stayed and hoped the police officer would find out whatever was in there...
About an hour later, I got bored and turned on the TV. At first, I didn't realize. But upon further inspection, the presenter said:
"Breaking news: A police officer is found unconscious in a abandoned house in Kent."
"Police would like to speak with this man in connection with the crime"
And who's picture appeared on the screen? That's right-
mine...
I look outside the window, and a group of news presenters and policemen swarm outside the creepy girl's house. I gulp. I have to prove that I didn't do this. So, carefully, I went upstairs and poked my head out of the window. I coughed and said:
"Excuse me, I am the person who..."
The cameras all turn at me. I freeze. Eventually, somebody shouts:
"Hey! Aren't you that guy who the police are after?" I was about to tell him that that's what I was about to say, but I keep quite. Then, a policemen shouts:
"Get over here!!"
And I do...
I manage to tell the police that I didn't do anything, which was true- of course. But I guess I have to resort to plan A again- find out myself...
This time however, I had a better plan. I could lure whatever was in there to come outside. Then, I would get in my car and call the police. Again.
So, once again, there I was. Standing next to the door, and planning in my head what I was about to do next. Without waiting any longer, I open the door...
The girl appeared. I started for a few seconds, forgetting what to do. It took me a while to realize that I was just standing there staring at her. I gulped and did the first thing that came to my mind. Running. I ran down the stairs, but lost my footing and fell over the banister. Soon, I was lying next to a wall, helpless with the girl closing in on me.
"Oh, no..." I thought.
"STOP RIGHT THERE!!" I heard a voice say. The girl turned her head to face him. Without warning, she rushed towards him.
