cat named Minx. He was swift
and clever and wasn't afraid of
anything, except the scary, loud
dog next door.

He always barked loudly at Minx
whenever Minx came outside.
Every time Max barked at Minx,
Minx would run back into his house
through the cat door.

and tried to sneak across the yard past
Max's fence without being noticed, but
Max could see Minx through the cracks
in the fence and immediately let out a
loud, gruff BARK! BARK! BARK!

old dog? You always bark at me every
day!" Minx meowed angrily. He was
surprised that his annoyance had gotten
the best of him today. He had never
spoken to Max before. "Mean old dog?

old and I am certainly not mean!" Max
replied defensively. "Then why do you
always bark at me every time I come
outside? It's scary!" Minx meowed, his
fur bristling. "Scary? Why is my bark so
scary?" Max asked. "It's scary because
dogs scare cats, duh!" replied Minx. Max
huffed, "I'm not trying to scare you! I
just wanted to be friends!"

my friend?" Minx meowed,
totally taken aback by Max's
explanation."Yes! That's why I've
barked at you every time
you come outside. I
wanted to ask if you
would be my friend." Max
answered.

time he had assumed that Max was just
trying to scare him when really he just
wanted to be friends.
"Of course I'll be your friend! Hold on,
I'll be right back!" Minx said. He then
scampered back through the cat door.
Max watched him, wondering if he
would come back.

a bone in his mouth. Max watched him,
puzzled. Minx threw the bone over the
fence and into Max's yard. A huge smile
spread across Max's snout. "Gee, thanks!
You didn't have to bring me a bone!"
Max barked happily.

of saying sorry for thinking you were
only out to scare me. I have a feeling we
will be great friends," Minx meowed
shyly.
And as it turned out, Minx and Max
became the best of friends.
