Have you ever wanted to soar past 

skyscrapers or lift a truck above your head? 

Have you ever wanted to save someone from 

danger using your own strength and speed? 

While we might not be able to run faster than 

a cheetah or climb up the sides of buildings, 

we all know somebody who can...

                                   A SUPERHERO

But where do superhero's come from? Who 

creates their powers? Just like books have 

authors and movies have directors, 

superhero's have comic creators. 

One of the most famous comic writer is Stan 

Lee. He has created many superhero's with 

different powers and capabilities, like Captain 

America, The Hulk, Spiderman, and many 

more.

If you could create a superhero, what powers 

would he or she have?

Stan Lee was born in New York in 1922, but his 

name then was Stanley Martin Lieber. He graduated 

from high school when he was only 16! He knew he 

wanted to work for a publishing company and 

applied to be an assistant at Timely Comics. He 

started working there not really interested in 

comics, but he soon grew to love writing about 

superheros.

Stan Lee started out as being a gopher for the 

company. A gopher is someone who runs errands 

for the bosses. He describes his first job by saying 

this: "In those days the artists dipped the pen in 

ink, so I had to make sure the inkwells were filled."

Does filling inkwells sounds like a fun job to you?

He probably did not know then that he would 

become president of this company years later when 

the name changed to Marvel Comics.
