gave up the state of nature, for an organized society.

society was to have an absolute monarchy. Hobbs

Born August 29th 1632, in Somerset, Englaind, John
Locke would one day become one of the most
influential Enlightenment thinkers of the day. Born to
two Puritan parents, John Locke (father) and Agnes
Keene, Locke always was influenced by the church.
Locke did most of his studies at the prestigious
Westminster School in London. Once he was finished
there, he continued his education at Christ Church,
Oxford. From his education, Locke believed that
people were basically moral and had natural rights.
Locke believed the governments job was to protect
these natural rights. He felt that if the government
fails its obligations to protect these natural rights,
then people have the right to revolt. At the age of 72
in Essex, England, John Locke would pass away. But
his ideas would never die and his influence is still
seen today in the United State Constitution.

Dennis Diderot was born October 5th 1713, in Langres,
France. Diderot was proclaimed an excellent studendt
by his teachers, and decided to enter the clergy at the
Jesuit college of Louis-le-Grand. In 1732, Diderot
earned a masters of art degree in philosophy. Diderot
decided to abandon the clergy, and decided to study
law. This aspiration to study law was short lived
though and in 1734 decided to become a writer. During
this time is when Diderot would have his most influence
in the Enlightenment. After 26 years of research and
work, Diderot's 17 volume Encyclopedia was
published. Through the Encyclopedia, Diderot hoped to
change the way of thinking. In the Encyclopedia,
Diderot denounced slavery, praised freedom of
expression and urged education for all. Unfortunately,
at the age of 70, on July 31, 1874, Diderot passed away
in Paris, France.
