As soon as my alarm went off, I shot up out of bed like a bolt of lightning. Today was the day. August 25th had finally arrived.

I quickly brushed my teeth and packed the last of the essentials into my little suitcase, but I still needed to find my camera. I couldn’t go on this trip without it, how would people believe it otherwise.

After some searching I eventually found it hiding in my wardrobe, grabbing the camera and my bags I ran down the stairs two at a time.

After shovelling my breakfast into me, I was finally on the bus to school. “Are you looking forward to your adventure Kayla?” my best friend Lily asked me, but she didn’t even need a reply as she could see I was bursting with excitement. “I can’t believe you’re actually getting to go and see it all, I'm so jealous."

Lily and I hopped off the bus and we went our separate ways. I found my way to Mr. Brinkley’s class room and Lily went off to gym.

Mr. Brinkley called the roll and then we all lined up in alphabetical order. One by one we filed into the rocket.
“Seat belts and helmets on everyone, we are in for a bumpy ride”, the pilot warned.
Despite a rather unpleasant journey, 3 hours and a planet later we had arrived at our destination. Stepping out of the rocket we all looked around us, wondering what was so special about this sea of blue we saw. There was nothing to see, water and more water surrounded us.

Welcome
to Earth everybody!!
After the initial shock of the scenes that we saw before us, we were introduced to the Captain of our ship. He introduced his crew and told us a little bit about himself. “Welcome everybody, on behalf of myself and my crew we warmly welcome you to Earth. Our ship ‘the Emerald Eye’ is going to be your home for the next few days and we hope you enjoy your stay”.
The Captain told us of how he left Mars for Earth because he found the story of the planets self-destruction fascinated him and he wanted to provide people with the opportunity to see the devastation for themselves.
Following the formal introductions we went off to our cabins to freshen up before our first class.

History OF Earth
Our first lesson was all about the history of Earth; to be honest it was rather fascinating but I was mainly interested in the scuba diving class we were taking later on. I was beyond excited to see the underwater world of Earth, well at least what was left of it.
I was familiar with the term global warming and I knew what it was but I did not realise the extent to the story of this once magnificent planet. It turns out that what caused the devastation of the entire planet was something that could have been avoided or at least reduced if only the population at the time had listened.
Apparently something called global warming and climate change was occurring at an alarming rate, scientists and activists all over the world tried to get people to reduce their impact on the planet, but these people did not listen and when they decided to, it was too late.
Temperatures rose and with them so did sea levels, oxygen was replaced with gases such as methane and carbon dioxide ,habitats were destroyed and fossil fuels ran out, yet the population refused to see the signs.
It was not a fast process, but eventually, over nearly one hundred years the sea levels rose to drown out earth. There was nowhere else for the human race to go except Mars. What was originally planned as an experiment ended up being our saviour.
