The Utah Mormons was a religious cultural group. Joseph Smith was the leader of the Latter Day Saint Movement. It was founded in western New York in the 1820's.

Joseph Smith was born December 23 1805 in Sharon Vermont. He grew up in a burned-over district, an intense religious area during the Second Great Awakening.




The Utah Mormons move west to escape religious persecution. They wanted to move and build their own holy city. Joseph Smith built his own church and was the leader of that church.
Utah isn't a very flat area, there are many mountains and hills that cover this land. It wasn't easy for that Mormons to adapt to this environment, it took them a while to adaot but eventually they got used to it.
The Mormons weren't used to this new environment. It was very rocky and there were many mountains so they didn't adapt overnight. They were used to flat land and large plains but soon they adapted to their surroundings.
