Joseph Smith was a religious leader who founded Mormonism. He also founded the Latter Day Saints Movement. He also translated the gold plates into what the LDS church calls The Book of Mormon today.

Joseph Smith wasnt sure of what church to join, so on September 21, 1823 he prayed about it and God and an angel visited him and told him that there was corruption in all of the churches and none of them were right. He was told to go and find the gold plates and to translate them and to return them to him on a specific date. Once he had translated he knew what he had to do. He started his own church called The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. The Book Of Mormon was published in 1830.
