Islam is a monotheistic religion that believes in the god Allah.


The prophet Muhammad was born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. A prophet is someone who teaches people about the will of God.
The prophet Muhammad went on a pilgrimage with his followers from Mecca to Yathrib. A pilgrimage is a journey made for a religious reason.
Islam has five things they have to do for their faith, these are called the Five Pillars.

Shahada means testimony of faith. Followers of Islam must testify that there is no true god but Allah.
This is the most important pillar.

The second pillar is called Salat. It requires all followers of Islam to pray 5 times a day.
-Fajr (dawn)
-Dhuhr (noon)
-Aṣr (afternoon)
-Maghrib (evening)
-and Ishā (night)


Zakat means charity. Throughout their lives Muslims are supposed to donate to the poor and provide for those less fortunate than them.
Siyam means to fast. In the month of Ramadan muslims do not eat food from sunrise to sunset.
