To the Class of 2018
“It was not curiosity that killed the goose who laid the golden egg, but an insatiable greed that devoured common sense.”
― E.A. Bucchianeri, Brushstrokes of a Gadfly

Chapter 01
My father once told me, "Nick, remember to not criticize anyone because they may not have had the same advantages in life." I took this lesson to heart, even when I moved from my family's house in the Mid-West to the far more exciting areas of New York. I had returned from being a WWI soldier, and was ready for a far greater experience than what could be presented in Minnesota.

So long, Mid-West!
This Yale-grad is off to be a bondsman!
Chapter 01
My run-down, one-bedroom house was on West Egg, the nouveau-riche part of Long Island. Across the bay lived the East Egg residents, or the "Old Money," if you will. Many of them grew up in rich households, and inherited their predecessors' wealth and manners.
Despite the small and beaten frame of my rental home, I still had a great view of the ocean, and lived next to the garish monstrosity of a mansion belonging to a mysterious man named Gatsby.

Home Sweet Home!
That's East Egg across the bay.
Chapter 01
I first visited my cousin, Daisy, and her husband, Tom Buchanan, at their mansion in East Egg. Tom turned out to be a rich, arrogant man with abusive tendencies, and was having an affair with a woman in the city. Daisy was as lovely as ever, with her magically alluring voice, but she, too, was lacking in a sense of moral obligation. Their friend, Jordan Baker, tried to seem as uninterested and nonchalant about everything possible, but all three became very vocal about anything relating to the maintenance of their power and influence in society.
I left the party feeling disgusted by the lack of morality.
