Apure is one of the federal states, together with the Capital District and the Federal Dependencies, form the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Its capital is San Fernando de Apure.

It is located to the southwest of the country, in the region of Los Llanos, bordering to the north with Táchira, Barinas and Guárico, to the east with Bolivar, to the southeast with Amazonas and to the south with Colombia. With 76,500 km² it is the third largest state.

San Fernando de Apure (also referred to as San Fernando) is the capital city of the San Fernando municipality and the Apure state in los llanos de Venezuela. It is identified with the phrase "the city of hope".

Agriculture and cattle ranching are the main economic activities of the Apure State, in the agricultural areas cocoa, sugar cane, caraota, bean, fruit trees, oil palm, plantain, cassava, among others. The livestock sector is basically specialized in cattle production, concentrating about 30% of the livestock of the whole national territory.
