Mother said it would happen, but I refused
to believe. “There’s no way, that’s gross!” I
would always repeat. I’ll get butterflies in
my tummy, and stars in my eyes? That’s
nonsense, absurd; I knew it was a lie. I
might have been young, but she couldn't be
right, there is no way I would ever like a
girl, oh what a fright!

Well two years later and I’m eight years old.
I’m starting to witness my mother’s words
unfold. I felt a tingle in my belly during lunch
today, and later I became tongue tied, to my
dismay. I thought I was fine, I got the cootie
shot two summers past. I thought I was
cleared, but I guess that medicine wears off
fast. I think it happened to me; in fact I am
quite sure. I fell in love today, and I heard
there is no cure.

Her name is Elizabeth Marie; she has long,
blonde, curly hair. She smells like country wood
apples, and when I see her I can’t help but
stare. I soon was determined to ask her out on
a date. She is super good at four square, so it
had to be fate. But how did I impress a girl?
My mother never told me how. I was confused
about love. I needed to think fast, and take
action somehow!

It wasn’t too long till I knew just what to do! I’d
shovel her driveway and make it look just like brand
new! Girls like boys who can lift heavy stuff and
shoveling snow was sure to make me look buff. So I
grabbed a snow shovel and began the process. I dug
and I dug to try and clean up that mess. Two hours
I held that snow shovel in hand and ten blisters
later I learned shoveling is much easier in sand. But
I didn’t care, because Elizabeth was worth it. I
shoveled some more, until I had broke it. Yes you
heard right, I cracked that snow shovel in half! If I
wasn’t so nervous, I might have just laughed.

This would happen to me, just as I was about to win
her love. I needed some help, so I prayed for
guidance from up above. “Dear Lord”, I said, “I love
Elizabeth Marie. I want her to love me back. How
can I get her to notice me?” Right then from thin
air, the dear Lord answered my cry. I was hit on
the head by something that literally fell from the
sky. I felt like Chicken Little, and had claimed that
the sky was falling. Fortunately for me, I was given
a calling. I bent down to pick up and observe the
mystery. I instantly recognized what was provided
for me. It was skinny and wooden with many bristles
for a crown. It was the most beautiful paintbrush I
had ever seen around.

Attempt number two, to win my love’s heart, had to
be for me to paint her some of my beautiful art! So
I took that beloved paintbrush and dipped it in
paint, I was extremely ecstatic, I thought I would
faint. But no, I did not, I painted away. I used
that prized paintbrush and painted all day. I painted
an apple, like the scent of her hair. I painted a big
heart, to show her how much I care. I even wrote
our initials inside of that heart. I used that great
paintbrush to show her that we could never part.
Flowers, and ponies, some stars and the sun; I
painted them all, and I had only just begun.
