1777 Congress adopted The Articles of Confederation

While the states were writing their constitutions, the Continental Congress created a plan for the nation as a whole. This plan had a One-House Legislature- a form of government with an executive system and no system of national courts. The Articles also planned for a limited government, keeping in mind the recent independence from Britain.

Growing Problems

Although the AOC provided some stability, there were still problems such as war debts and other problems. There were economic problems as well.

Continental Convention

The aim of this convention was to revise the AOC and not to make a whole new government.

A New Constitution

After many weeks of debating, the delegates agreed to the Constitution on every term.
