This book is about the development of the atom model. It gives the Chemist responsible for each model and a fact about each Chemist. This book is for grades 2-4.
For a fun experiment, try using different types of candy to represent each model of the atom.

An atom is made up of three different parts, protons, neutrons, and electrons.

Protons are the positive charged particles.

Electrons are negative charged particles.

Neutrons do not have a charge at all.

The first person to make a model of the atom was John Dalton. He was an English Chemist.

He made his model in the year 1803. It was called the "Billiard Ball model". It looked like a pool ball.

A fun-fact about Dalton, he was colorblind. He was also the first person to write a paper that talked about colorblindness.

The second model was created by J.J. Thomson. He was also an English Chemist.

He made his model in 1904. It was called the "Plum Pudding Model". It looked like a bowl of pudding with random plums in it.

A fun-fact about Thomson, he won the Noble-Prize in 1906 for the discovery of subatomic particles.

The third atom model was created by Lord Ernest Rutherford. He was from New-Zeland

He discovered his model in 1911. it was called the "Planetary Model". The electrons revolved around the nucleus like the planets do around the sun.
