I got a letter today from my French friend Malaury. She came to visit me last fall and tomorrow I leave to see her in France. I am so excited!

We left Seattle early this morning and started our long journey to Poitiers, France. I have never left the country before. Our first stop is for a layover in Iceland.

After we took off from Iceland our pilot told us to look out the windows because you could see the Northern Lights. I had always wanted to see the Northern Lights and I got to on our flight to Paris.

Once I stepped off the train that took us from Paris to Poitiers, I was greeted with hugs and a large sign that welcomed me saying "Bienvenue Sunny!"

The next day after arriving at Malaury's house, we went on a field trip with her class to Château de Chenonceaux. It was beautiful, we learned about Henry II and how he gifted the castle to his mistress Diane de Poitiers who added all the gardens.

Over Easter weekend Malaury's family surprised me with a trip to their beach house in La Tranche sur-mer. They took me surfing in the Atlantic Ocean! It was an amazing experience I will never forget.

April 7, 2015
Today we got to walk around the streets of downtown Poitiers. I ordered a croque-monsieur from a boulangerie in French!
April 8, 2015
Saying goodbye to all the friends I made while in Poitiers was so hard. I will never forget looking out the bus windows and seeing their smiling faces and waving hands as we left for Paris.
April 8, 2015
Our first stop on our way to Paris was at Versailles. Originally a hunting lodge, then a palace for Louis XIV, and now it is a museum. The art was incredible but it was so crowded! Tomorrow we are going to the Louvre.
