Dedicated to Penelope, the chicken with a taste of adventure

Penelope looked at Ivy sitting quietly on her nest. "Ivy, do you ever wonder what happens to hens when they leave the farm? Have you ever wondered about the life outside of our farm?" she asked. Ivy turned to her and stated quietly, "Penny you know that when hens leave they never come back. Why do you ask?"

"Because I'm planning on escaping this farm, and go to the big city." Penelope stated. Ivy turned to Penelope, " Penelope that's a crazy plan! I'm going to go back to the coop, but Penelope you need to reconsider that. It's too risky! You know that no chicken has ever survived outside the farm!"

As Ivy walked back to the coop, Penelope began to contemplate how she could escape this farm. "There must be a way to get off this farm. I want to see what lies beyond this dreary farmyard." So she decided to do what no chicken had done before.

As the sky began to darken and the stars began to come out, Penelope waited until the farmer was done with the chores and she made her escape. She walked slowly down the path onto the road. She turned out to the road and became the first hen to leave the farm.
As Penelope was walking down the road she heard a loud growling noise behind her.

Penelope turned quickly around and she screeched loudly when she realized that there were two huge dogs behind her. The dogs slowly approached her and the bigger one said, "I've never seen a chicken off the farm before have you Tracker?" Tracker replied, "No but I'm sure glad too, I'm starving." Penelope started backing away slowly oh what was she going to do?!

Penelope looked at the dogs and gave her fiercest look, and said loudly, "You cannot eat me! I'm escaping from that farm to go live in the big city! Haven't you ever had a dream?!" She slowly looked down realizing how crazy this idea had been, she should have listened to Ivy. Tracker turned towards the big dog and said, "Dodger I had a dream once, I wanted to go and become a show dog." Dodger snarled, "I don't care if you have a dream, everyone has dreams. But you're not going to live to see yours!" Then he lunged at Penelope.

Penelope scrambled backwards and then suddenly out of nowhere a brown figure jumped over her and tackled Dodger and began to growl furiously. Dodger turned and ran away from the large brown animal with Tracker following behind. The brown animal turned around and Penelope trembled and then slowly approached the creature. "If he helped her, he can't be dangerous," she reasoned.
