Chapter 1
Positive Reinforcement

When Carl gets home from school he knows that he has 20 minutes to play with his friend Maslow before having to do his homework.

Carl does not like doing his homework but his parents and teachers say it is very important. Some days he thinks about not doing it and going back outside to play with Maslow.

Great work Carl here is your favorite chocolate.
I love chocolate! Thank you Mr. Skinner.

Carl you should stay out longer and not do the homework Mr. Skinner assigned us.
But the homework is due tomorrow Maslow. I'm not sure if that is a very good idea.

Carl heads home to do his homework. He knows if he finishes it on time, his favorite chocolate will be waiting for him in the morning from Mr. Skinner.

Great job Carl, another assignment finished on time. Here's another chocolate.

Wow! Thanks Mr. Skinner, I sure do love chocolate.
Chapter 2
Negative Reinforcement

One of Carl's favorite things when he gets home from school is to play with his toys. He loves his red wagon in particular.

Carl is supposed to have his toys cleaned up before dinner starts but is having to much fun. His mom gets home and isn't very happy.

Clean up this mess right now Carl! Its almost time for dinner. You know the rules.
But I'm having fun!

Carl decides to have his friend Little Albert over after school to play and stay for dinner.
Maybe we should start cleaning up Carl.
No way Little Albert! I'm having fun!

How many times have I told you Carl to have your toys cleaned up before we start dinner.

Jeez, maybe I should keep my toys cleaned up so she stops nagging me and we can play in peace.

For the next two weeks Carl keeps his toys cleaned up. He is happy because his mother does not nag him anymore.

Chapter 3
Positive Punishment

Now remember class we have a very big test tomorrow. Make sure you all go home and study hard.

Carl seems to be having a hard time studying and is quickly losing focus.

Making paper airplanes is much more fun than studying for my test!

Carl fails his test and is very upset.

Jeez, maybe next time instead of making paper airplanes I should study .
Chapter 4
Negative Punishment

Carl loves throwing his baseball very high up in the air and catching it.

Carl's parents always tell him to be very careful when throwing the ball around the family's new car.

SMASH!
OH NO!
Carl throws the ball so high that it hits his parents car.

Carl's parents are very upset and take away his baseball.
