is for Africa
Morocco is located in North Africa. It is bordered by Algeria and the Western Sahara.
is for Berber Revolt
In 740-743 AD, the native Berbers revolted against the ruler Ummayad Caliphate. After the revolt, they split into various Berber states called Berghwata, Sijilmassa and Nekor. Afterwards, they modified Islam to suit their own needs. Berghwata went so far as to create a new syncretic faith.
is for Carthage
The Phoenicians entered Morocco in 800 BC, and began trading salt and ore along the coast. They took control over Morocco, and around the 5th century BC, had taken much of North Africa. They made trade agreements with the Berbers and paid them an annual tax to be sure they would cooperate.
is for Dynasty
In Ancient Morocco, there were many dynasties: the Idrisid dynasty (788-974 AD), the Merinid dynasty (1248-1865 AD), Wattasid dynasty (1472-1554 AD), Saadi Dynasty (1554-1659 AD), and Alawi Dynasty (1664 AD-present day)
is for economy
Morocco has a strong tea and tobacco export. They also exported fruits, vegetables and grains, along with raising cattle and sheep. They are rich in fish as well.
is for Fez
The capital of Morocco, Fez, was founded in 789 by Idris I. It was later inherited by his son, Idris II, and then again by his son, Muhammed.
is for Geography
The geography is Morocco is mostly mountainous, with sloping valleys and plateaus. The Moulouya river is a large contributor to the water supply. The climate is moderate and subtropical with cooler breezes off the ocean.
is for Halal
Moroccan people practice Islam, and have since C. 700. They follow Islamic law, which means food must be prepared in accordance with Halal.
is for Islam
Islamic practices began in Morocco around 700 C. Their god is Allah, and Muhammed is the messenger. They follow the Quran and the five pillars of Islam.
is for justice
The Berbers are often described as democratic, but in reality were more of an egalitarian society. They only unified once to create an organized power, mainly because their society had major distrust in anyone having a large amount of power.
is for ksars
Ksar is the Moroccan word for castle. They are made out of adobe brick, with designs carved into the walls.
is for Literature
Berber language was mostly spoken, and rarely written out. The stories they told were about animals, monsters, and royal figures. Poetry would often be accompanied by music.
is for Moroccan Art
Ancient Moroccan Berbers created art out of everyday objects, such as pottery, woven pieces, jewellery, and incredible architecture. Berbers from the south of Morocco are especially famous for their textiles.
is for Nutrition
Ancient Moroccan Berbers had plenty of pastures to raise cattle, sheep and goats. They also grew plenty of cereal grains and dates.
