One day in a land far, far away, there was a nation called the Soviet Union and the nation's leader went by the name of Mikhail Gorbachev.

Mikhail Gorbachev tried to make his country have more money and change their current ways.
But people disliked him for that and tried to kick him out of his position as the leader of the Soviet Union.

Then other countries that the Soviet Union had control over wanted to be free from being controlled by the Soviet Union.
In another land far, far away, there was a wall that separated one part of that land from the other which showed the division between two types of people.
In the year 1989 though, the wall fell from people that wanted freedom! They went from one side of the wall to the other which was from being in a country of communism which is bad, to escaping it.
All of this led to Mikhail Gorbachev quitting his job as president.
After Mikhail Gorbachev left his spot as president, Boris Yeltsin took over and the Soviet Union became what is now the Russian Federation.
