This is a chicken family. They include a roosters, hens and, chicks. All part of the poultry family. Let's get to know them.

This is George. He's the rooster of the family. George eats both plants and meat so he would be considered an omnivore. He is in charge of keeping his family safe of any danger. He also looks for food for his chicks back at home. Whatever he finds, they eat!

This is Jane. The hen of the family. Jane is in charge of keeping her eggs warm. Because of her excellent egg production, she is what we call a Single Comb White Leghorn. Jane is also pregnant.

These are the chicks of the family. Bonnie and Johnnie. Before they were born, they were fertile eggs. Meaning that they would become the chicks they are today. They are also kept warm by their mom, Jane.

Oh No! Jane has laid her eggs in an unsafe place! She will have to find a nice warm area for her eggs before it's too late.

George comes to safety and guides Jane into a safe place for his new younglings.

George is very happy that his wife had twins. But Jane is not. How could this happen you may ask? Jane took less than 25 hours to produce her eggs. That means there could be more than one egg. In this case two.

Most animals come out color blind, correct? Not these chicks. They come out fully aware of every color. Also, they dream real dreams just like us humans do!
