The Little Plant That Could

Hi everyone! I am Tod the PLant and I am very hungry!

When I get hungry I produce food in a process called Photosynthesis which happens in the chloroplasts of every cell. Cells make up me and my whole body!

While I complete Photosynthesis I always use this formula...

Photosynthesis Equation

6CO2 + 6 H2O ---Light---> C6 H12 O6 + 6O2

Carbon Dioxide + Water --Light--> Glucose + Oxygen

The water enters into me through my roots underground, sunlight is absorbed by my leaves, and carbon dioxide also enters through my leaves. For Photosynthesis I use two different reactions. The first reaction takes place in the thylakoids of the chloroplast and uses light and water to make oxygen and energy also known as ATP. From there the second reaction begins and takes place in the stroma of the chloroplast and ATP, or energy, and carbon dioxide is used to make Glucose.

The products of Photosynthesis are Glucose, which is like sugar that I eat for food, and Oxygen which I release into the air for people like you to breathe in.

Now that you know what I do when I am hungry. What do you think I do when I am tired? I complete a process called Cellular Respiration in the Mitochondria in all of my cells!
