- What is Christmas Tree?
A Christmas tree is a decorated tree, usually an evergreen conifer such as spruce, pine, or fir or an artificial tree of similar appearance, associated with the celebration of Christmas. The modern Christmas tree was developed in medieval Livonia (present-day Estonia and Latvia) and early modern Germany, where Protestant Germans brought decorated trees into their homes. It acquired popularity beyond the Lutheran areas of Germany and the Baltic countries during the second half of the 19th century, at first among the upper classes.
The true origin of the Christmas tree can be associated with the play of heaven. In the Middle Ages, ethnographic plays were performed throughout Europe, through which they were able to spread the scriptures. The plays talk about the origin of mankind and the folly of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, usually performed on December 24 each year. The apple tree is a prose in the play, but since the plays were performed in the winter, the trees were left unfinished, so the actors hung false apples to the branches. [7]
