Hi, I’m Luna, and I want to tell you the story of how I came to be the moon’s best friend.

Once upon a time, I lived on an orchard with my mother and my father, but it wasn’t just any orchard... We grew angel's trumpet, the most beautiful flower that grew by the light of the moon.
My favorite place to be was the fountain in the middle of the orchard, where I could be alone with the angel’s trumpet. I was sitting by the fountain on the fateful night that changed everything.

The moon didn’t appear in the sky! And it turned a bright sunny blue.

“Oh no!” cried my mother.
“What are we to do?” cried my father, “Without the moon, the angels trumpet won’t bloom.”

I knew that I had to do something to help, but what? The moon had vanished.
Then I got an idea.

“Someone needs to go and find the moon,”
I called to my mother and my father.

“We couldn’t,” answered my mother. “What would happen to the orchard if we left?”
My father turned to my mother,
“Who would go?”
Maybe I could go, I wondered, but no. I’m not nearly brave enough to go. I surely would fail.

For three nights we waited for the moon to come back, but as the sun left the sky on the fourth night and the moon didn’t appear, I knew that I needed to go and find it and save our orchard.

“Be careful,” my father called after me.
“We love you, Luna,” yelled my mother. I turned and waved goodbye.

I had heard stories about the moon, and I knew that it lived as far west as you can walk and on the tallest peak of a mountain, surrounded by the dark forest. So, I squared my shoulders and...
I walked...

And I walked...

And I walked...

Until finally, I reached the edge of the dark forest and stood before the towering trees, peering into the gloom.

The forest was scary, but I reminded myself that the future of our orchard depended on me, so I squared my shoulders and walked right in,

and I walked...

and I walked, past the yellow eyes that peered from the darkness, until I reached the base of the mountain.
