It was the middle of Spring in the small, merry town of Sunny Acres. Sunny Acres was famous for its community park with beautiful, soft, emerald green grass. It was the perfect place for people to enjoy a pleasant picnic.

Not only did humans love to picnic in Sunny Acres, there was a family of ants who would eat all of their leftover food. Warm, gooey, cheesy pepperoni pizza was the ant family's favorite food. One of the residents of Sunny Acres, however was not as joyous.

Hidden away under the blue sunny skies and fun picnics in the park, lived a greedy snake named Steve. Steve lived all alone in the musty, creepy, and dark tunnels which formed a cave. He was mean, sneaky, and did not like humans, animals, or even other snakes.

During the day, Steve would slither from his cave for his favorite activity of scaring humans. He would show his large fangs and shake his tail violently. The loud rattle and sharp teeth would terrify the picnickers, as well as the family of ants.

Steve scared everyone away, leaving the park with food the humans packed in their basket. He did not like to share, and now the fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies, juicy cheeseburgers, fried chicken, steamy pizza, and sweet ice cream cones all belonged to him.
It was the happiest Steve had ever been in his scaly, sneaky, snake life.

Spring time quickly shifted to Summer in Sunny Acres, and brought an excessive heat wave to the park. It was too
hot to even think about a picnic, especially in a park with a scary, slimy snake. Without humans there were no leftovers and the family of ants had nothing to eat.

We are starving!

Meanwhile, deep underground in his dark, dreary cave, Steve was enjoying his huge supply of treats. He was all alone. Steve ate and ate until he could barely move with a terrible stomach ache He was now more grumpy and mean than before.
Ouch, my tummy hurts!
The hungry family of ants escaped the brutal heat after they found a set of tunnels that led underground. It was much cooler than the park, but there was still no food in sight.

It feels great down here!

The further the ants walked, the hungrier they became. The scent of cheesy goodness filled the tunnel, but so did the sound of a loud, grumpy moan. They kept moving forward.
Smells like pizza!
Sounds like Steve...

The family made it through to the end of the tunnel into Steve's home. The snake was angry, but in a great deal of pain. He yelled and shook his rattle the loudest the ants had ever heard, and were terrified.
Get out of my home now!

May we have something to eat?

The ants quickly realized the snake was unable to slither around.
Please, Steve, help us, we see you have extra food and it has been days since our last meal
This food is mine! Why should I share it with your family? I refuse! I will eat it all!

Steve continued his deep, agonizing moans but his awful stomach ache would not go away.
We are ants, we only need crumbs!
I can't spare even a crumb! This food belongs to me!
