Our family lived on a sunny little farm in Vermont. There's Mom, Dad, my sister Penelope, and me—Irene.

Dad's job was making paint. And he was good at it too. Pretty soon, he was selling paint to everyone we knew and making lots of money doing it!

Business got so good that Dad thought moving to the city would be best for our whole family. So we packed up all of our things and set off for the big city of Boston.

We will all be so happy here!

Mom and Dad decided on the spot where we would build our house. It wasn't very nice yet, but it would soon feel like home.

Dad headed into town the next morning for his first day of work in our new city.

But he didn't seem to fit in with the other businessmen.

So, we all bought new dresses and dad a new suit. We combed our hair until it was soft and shiny.

If were going to live in such a nice city, we would have to look nice too.

Dad had made a new friend at work. So the next day, we went to the home of the Corey's for dinner.

Mr. and Mrs. Corey and their son Tom had always lived in Boston and were as rich as can be.

They seemed nice, but the dinner wasn't very much fun for any of us.

After that, Dad spent a lot of time working. I missed having him at home, but I knew he was working hard to help all of us.
