I am a waterpolo player
I wonder if people just see a little girl and not an athlete
I hear the crowd chanting and my coach barking orders
I see an opening to the goal
I want to score and win the game
I am nervous leading up to the throw
I pretend like I know what I’m doing
I feel a sudden rush of adrenaline in my stomach
I Am Poem: Water polo

I worry I’m not going to score the winning goal
I cry out in my head to have confidence
I am inching closer to the goal
I understand that it’s just a game
I say my own name to let my teammate know I’m open
I dream of the perfect play
I try to pass the other defenders
I hope they see my little chicken arms
I am victorious

Stevie
Silly, sarcastic, sassy, sophisticated
Granddaughter of Belinda Genet
Lover of sugar, sleep, and sports
Who feels thankful, grateful, and joyful of my life
Who needs lots of sleep, freetime, and attention
Who gives advice, leadership, and charisma to my special teammates
Who fears failure, disappointment, and harsh judgement
Who would like to see Cuba, Jamaica, and Hawaii

Bio Poem: Stevie Genet

At the Safari Park
Cold, grey December day
Walked all day long
Then I released mama’s grip
A glimpse of an orange mane caught my eye
Walking closer as my breath hitched
Smile stretched across my face
Couldn’t peel my eyes away
Roars and hissing left chills
It was as though a light passed through me
Selected words are from Gary Soto's poem "Oranges"

Awkward: [okward], adjective, plural awkward
Causing or feeling embarrassed or inconvenience; causing difficulty
When you look into someone’s eyes for too long
When I forget someone’s name after I meet them a hundred times
When I mess up during a presentation in front of an audience
When I have bad breath and hits peoples faces
When I trip like a domino and try to play it cool
When I accidentally spit on someone’s face while we are having a conversation
When someone pronounces my name wrong and I’m too embarrassed to correct them
When I make a funny joke and nobody laughs
Definition Poem: Awkward
Limerick Poem: Lass who can't sing
A young lass always sang
Wanted to join a band, so gave it a bang
Found she wasn’t great at it
She threw a fit
So she decided to join a gang

Nana oh nana you are so kind and gentle
Your smile radiates the whole room
You make my day even when I’m at my worst
I admire your constant optimism
When you laugh it is so pure and genuine
You shine like the sun even on cloudy days
Brightening everyone’s mood
Your stories never get old, though you told it to me before
Ode Poem: Nana

The best cook to ever exist
As years pass by, your body grows older but your soul remains youthful
How I love to talk about our eventful days
Whose words of wisdom will stick to me like glue
You deserve the whole world
The most transcending woman I’ll ever meet in my lifetime
My whole world
Found Poem: Restless Night
I sit in the grass silently under the shimmering night sky
Facing the horizon in the east
Not blinking, slowly breathing, body feels heavy
It’s cold although my body feels warm
I hear my heartbeat and my head lolls
My eyes wept for a moment, then silent again
Wasted thoughts escaped my mind
The full moon giving me refuge
Cold air inflates my lungs
Looking back up at the beautiful moon
The sun slowly raised, I finally walked off to reminisce in sleep

Morning bed head Morning bed head
Early
In the morning
I wake up
with no motivation
Bed head Bed head
Dark bags
Under my eyes
Rolling out of
My comfy bed
Bed head Bed head
Choral Poem: Bed Head
Stumbling towards the bathroom
Im drowsy
I look in the mirror
Terrified of my own reflection
Morning bedhead Morning bedhead

Emily Dickinson's Because I Could Not Stop For Death
Because I could not stop for Death –
He kindly stopped for me –
The Carriage held but just Ourselves –
And Immortality.
We slowly drove – He knew no haste
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility –
We passed the School, where Children strove
At Recess – in the Ring –
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain –
We passed the Setting Sun –
Or rather – He passed us –
The Dews drew quivering and chill –
For only Gossamer, my Gown –
My Tippet – only Tulle –
We paused before a House that seemed
A Swelling of the Ground –
The Roof was scarcely visible –
The Cornice – in the Ground –
Since then – ‘tis Centuries – and yet
Feels shorter than the Day
I first surmised the Horses’ Heads
Were toward Eternity –

I am Poem: Water Polo
Response: The reasoning of my poem, is the fact that I'm a water polo player at Santana High School. The setting of the poem is during a water polo game during the 4th quarter and the game is all tied up. The phrase,"I hear the crowd chanting and my coach barking orders" is an example of assonance by having a repetition of the word c. It makes the audience have auditory imagery of how the game might be loud with voices and visual imagery of how much pressure I have in the game. I use visual imagery by making a reference that I'm a short player. The phrase " I hope they see my little chicken arms" is informal diction and a metaphor by referencing that my little arms are like chicken arms.
Response: Bio Poem
Response: The reasoning for my poem is to give a little bio about myself. With the phrase,"Silly, sarcastic, sassy, sophisticated" and "Lover of sugar, sleep, and sports" was an example of alliteration by using the repetition of identical sounds at the beginning of a sequence of words. I use it to show the audience a visual imagery on how my personality is. I use a slight oxymoron with,"Lover of sugar, sleep, and sports" by exerting that i love sleep though i love being active with sports. The purpose of the poem was to give a little insight on myself as Stevie Genet.
