I Am Poem: Strong
I am inspired and driven I say that this is me
I wonder where I will be in 10 years I dream for a better future
I hear many doubts in my mind I try and I put effort in what I do
I see the future is in my hands I hope I can handle what will come my way
I want to be successful
I am hard-working and collective
I pretend like nothing is going on around me
I feel like I need to roar for others to hear me
I worry about school
I cry when I feel like I have failed others
I am as powerful as the people around me
I understand my strengths and my weaknesses
Bio Poem: Who Am I?
Addie,
Joyful, Shy, Humble, Persistent
Brother of Angelo, Carla, and Sandra
Lover of music, money, and math
Who feels tired after endless hours of studying, happy when with friends, and thankful for family
Who needs the weekend, to start looking for a college, and to travel again
Who gives his energy, free time, and effort into homework
Who fears spiders, snakes, and public bathrooms
Who would like to see Italy, Egypt, and Greece
Resident of Santee
Canon
Re-Creation Poem: The Burning Sun
Burning yellow in the distance
The light shining through the day
The heat touching my skin
It brightens like a candle
A big ball of fire in the sky
Never burning out
Smiling back at me
The sun sets turning it bright orange
Standing at the center of the solar system
Burning for centuries to come
The selected words were from "Orange" by Gary Soto
Stylistic Imitation Poem: The Parkland Shooting Massacre
At two twenty-one in the afternoon It was two twenty-one in the afternoon
It was two twenty-one in the afternoon Death has just entered the room
Class is in session It was two twenty-one in the afternoon
It was two twenty-one in the afternoon Bullets feast on the flesh of the innocents
The fire alarms screaming throughout the classrooms
It was two twenty-one in the afternoon It was two twenty-one in the afternoon
Confusion had spread like a disease People run as bullets fly past
It was two twenty-one in the afternoon It was two twenty-one in the afternoon
Students walking out with no suspicions Seventeen perished in a senseless act
It was two twenty-one in the afternoon It was two twenty-one in the afternoon
The sound of gunfire roaring like a lion
Definition Poem: Being Joyful
Joyful: [Joy-ful], adjective, Joyfulness
Feeling, expressing, or causing great pleasure of happiness
When I get what I wanted for my birthday
Being able to have free time to do what I want
When I have music roaring in my ears
When I finally finish my homework after millions of hours of working
When I learn something new
When my phone is fully charged
When I do good on a test that I studied endless hours for
When the weekend is close by
Limerick Poem: The Man That Can Fly
There was once a man that can fly
Who claims he has flown to the sky
He flew like a bird
He sat on the curb
He watched as the airplanes went by
Ode Poem: Ode To Pencil
Thank you pencil for helping me write out my thoughts
With your rounded and pointed lead
Screeching as I write
So sharp and light
The words disappear as I erase
You help me throughout the school day
When I am taking notes or doing my homework
As I sharpen you like a knife blade
Your yellow wooden exterior shines day and night
I will keep you in my pocket as I prepare for class
Found Poem: Nature
The golden light in the horizon
Doves lingering and singing
The blue skies hanging silently
Light flooding across the grass
The sun is up
Roses redder than my lips
Colors vibrant as light shimmers
Tree frogs looking in my window
Silver birches dangle at the edge of the woods
Color leaks into the morning
Words from the novel The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
Choral Poem: Piano
Piano Piano Piano Piano
Black On three legs
and white Showing its strings
Moving from chord to chord Hands swing side to side
Octave to octave Sheets to sheets
The melody singing in your ears Piano Piano
Piano Piano
Playing like Mozart
And Beethoven
88 keys in its glory
Hissing throughout the room
Strings being plucked
As I play each key
