This is June. June loves being a baby but sadly that reign could end sooner then most other babies. Her parents carry a disorder called Progeria.

Progeria is a rare genetic disorder that causes kids to grow old before they're teenagers.

A tiny change in the DNA will begin a rapid aging process at around a year old.

Gene mutations create abnormal proteins. When cells use these proteins, called Progerin, the cells break down more easily, speeding up the aging process.

Mutations in the LMNA gene that cause Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome result in the production of an abnormal version of the lamin A protein. The altered protein makes the nuclear envelope unstable and progressively damages the nucleus, making cells more likely to die prematurely.

Blood and skin samples showed that baby June has Progeria.

If she is lucky, she could live to be 13 or 14. Because of the disorder, June will loose her hair, her skin will become transparent, and she will loose a lot of weight.

Baby June went to the hospital and found out that luckily she did not have Progeria.

June lives a long happy life, but she still carries the trait for Progeria. So her future children have a one out of one million chance of also having Progeria.
