This Book was Written to inform you of the Various types of burns, what to do to treat the burns, misconceptions about treatment or burns, and common questions that are generally asked in regards to burns.
What are burns?
Burns are characterized by severe skin damage which causes the affected skin cells to die. depending on the severity of the burn, most people can survive without serious health consequences. However, more serious burns need immediate medical attention in order to prevent health complications or death.

First Degree Burns
Minor Burn that only affects the uppermost layer of the skin (epidermis)
Symptoms include redness, swelling, and pain
to treat use antibiotic ointment and loose gauze to protect the area, soak the wound in cool water for five minutes and for pain acetaminophen or ibuprofen
Ex: Sunburns


second degree Burns
Affects both the first (epidermis) and second layer (dermis) of the skin
Symptoms include red, white, or splotchy skin, pain and swelling
Wound often looks wet or moist
Blisters may develop and pain can be severe and can cause scarring
To treat rinse with cool water for 15-30 minutes until pain stops, Clean burn with mild soap and water and be careful of blisters as they can get infected, then apply antibiotic ointment with loose gauze to protect the area

Third Degree burns
Reaches into the fat layer of the skin
may be charred black or white or look waxy or leathery
can destroy nerves which causes numbness
never attempt to self treat these types of burns
call 911 immediately
while waiting for emergency care, raise the injury above your heart
don't get undressed but make sure no clothing is in the burn
