This famous battle began on July 1, 1863. It began with the Confederates and the Union firing shots at each other. After some time, Union started getting pushed back into Gettysburg by the Confederates. The Union made a smart decision to get to the high ground of Culp's Hill and Cemetery Ridge. The Union had more time to get an almost unbreakable defensive position. Each side waited for the other to attack, but none did. And so, day 2 begins...
Day 1
July second, 1863, the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg has begun. General Lee commanded an attack on the Union line's left side. Lee needed to capture Little Round Top, so that the Confederate army had a great position on the Union. Both sides fought fiercely for control of Little Round Top. Eventually, the Union managed to force the Confederates away from Little Round Top. But then, the Confederates launched an attack on Cemetery Hill and Culp's Hill. The Confederates' attack on Cemetery hill proved unsuccessful, as well as Culp's Hill. The Union held strong for the duration of the fight, as day 3 begins...
