Cirrus
A Cirrus cloud stays very high in the sky. It stays at 20,000 ft in the air. It is a thin, wispy, and cold cloud. Cirrus clouds predict good weather. Did you know that Cirrus clouds are made of ice crystals?
Cirrocumulus
Cirrocumulus clouds stay pretty high up in the sky. They stay at 16,000 ft. They are the clouds that you see almost all the time. They look like small, rounded, cotton balls that look like fish scales. The cirrocumulus clouds bring cold weather.
Altostratus
Altostratus clouds are low level clouds. They stay at 6,500 ft. Altostratus clouds are buleish grayish and cover the entire sky. They bring countinous rain or snow. If you look through the sky when these clouds are out, the sun looks like a round disk.
Altocumulus
Altocumulus clouds can be low level clouds or they can be high level clouds. They range from 6,500 ft to 20,000. They look like big gray puffy masses. They bring thunderstorms on warm sticky mornings. These clouds only form in groups.
Nimbostratus
Nimbostratus clouds are low level clouds. They stay at 6,500 ft. They look like dark gray, wet looking clouds. They bring lots of rain and snow. They are the tallest clouds because they expand up to the sky.
Cumulus
Cumulus clouds stay at 6,600 ft in the air. They are white and puffy. They look like cotton balls floating above us. They bring fair weather to us.
Cumulonimbus
The cumulonimbus cloud can be very short, but also very long. They can range from anywhere between 700-10,000 ft. They look like anvils. They bring bad weather. They are bad clouds
Mammatus
The mammatus cloud stays at 20,000 ft in the air. They look like low hanging bulges. They bring severe weather. They drop from the cumulonimbus cloud
