Chapter one
Eva Lotion has returned and she is ready to adventure again! Her first stop is into the jungle to learn about the ecosystem and species interactions!
Eva ventures into the jungle and finds a species of morpho butterflies. Each species is different from each other even though they are all butterflies they have different actions and characteristics. Butterflies are all herbivores so they only eat plants. But then a swooped in and ate one. That bird is an omnivore because it eats seeds and the Morpho butterflies.
Eva finds the population of the Morpho butterflies in the area and sees how they interact with the community around them. The Sun brings life to the plant (primary producer) which then is eaten by the butterfly (primary consumer) which is then eaten by a bird(secondary consumer) then at the top of the food chain the snake eats the bird( snake is the tertiary consumer.
Once those animals die they are broken down by docomposers like ants and fungi that put the nutrients the carcus has back into the ground. But sometimes before the carcus is decomposed scavengers, which are animals that eat dead animals, come and eat them before they are broken down.
She views the whole ecosystem. She sees how all of the organisms in that place interact and work together to keep eachother alive and to keep the ecosystem level. The Biome is the area in which they are living, Like they are in the rainforest.
Plants in the rainforest are producers/ heterotrophs wich means they create their own food. Autotrophs are like Eva. They cannot make their own food and they have to find it and use other things to eat it.
Where will Eva go next?
Chapter 2
Eva takes another stop by the ocean. During this adventure she will learn about the relationships between species and how they affect each other.
Eva dives right in ready to learn. First, Eva learns about symbiosis and mutualism. Both symbiosis and mutualism is how both organism species benefits both species. Eva saw a clown fish go into a sea anemone. She see how both help each other by providing shelter from prey and food for the fish and the fish keeps the anemone clean from parasites. Eva sees that this is a great example of mutalism.
After seeing the clown fish, Eva swims around a little more. She sees a huge whale! Eva watches the whale swim by. As the whale swims by, Eva notices something attached to its body. She realized that they are barnacles. Barnacles attach themselves to a whales body because of its filter feeding nature. This helps the barnacle but doesn't hurt or help the way. This is an example of commensalism.
Parasitism is when a parasite lives on an organism and causes that organism harm and effects the way that organism adapts. Barnacles and crabs are an example of parasitism. Barnacles attach themselves to the crabs body just the same they do to the whale. This time the barnacle cuts off all reproduction for the crab. This can also change the way the crab behaves.
