“Where are we going, Mom?” The little boy asked his mother from the backseat of the car.

“We’re going to visit your grandma,” She responded.

The little boy looked outside. “But this doesn’t look like the way to her house! Did she move?”

“I guess she did move,” Mother said. The little boy stopped asking questions and sat patiently for the rest of the car ride.

When the car came to a stop, the little boy hopped out of the car to see a building with a sign that said, “Oakwood Assisted Living”. He ran to grab Mother’s hand before walking into the building.
OAKWOOD ASSISTED LIVING

The first thing the little boy noticed when they stepped into the building was that there were other people’s grandmas and grandpas walking around. The little boy was confused, but didn’t say anything to Mother.

The little boy’s mother walked them over to the desk where a woman was sitting behind it with a computer in front of her. As Mother and the woman had a conversation, the little boy looked around the strange building. He saw them talking to each other and playing bingo.

Once Mother and the woman were done talking to each other, Mother led him down a hall with many doors like a hotel would. They stopped at the door with the sign that read Grandma’s name. Mother knocked on the door and Grandma opened the door.

“Well, if it isn’t my favorite little grandson and his mother!” Grandma slowly bent down to give him a hug. “Come inside, please.”

Grandma’s room was a lot different than the one at her old house. It was a lot smaller, too. She even had a bathroom in her room!

Mother sat him down on one of the chairs in the room. She helped Grandma sit down in the chair next to him. “Thank you, Beth.” The little boy didn’t understand. Mother’s name wasn’t Beth, it was Sarah. Mother didn’t say anything to correct her, so the little boy stayed quiet.

“So how have you been, Grandma Linda?” Mother asked. “Oh, I’m wonderful, Sarah,” Grandma said. “The doctor says I’m not well enough to drive, though. Isn’t that ridiculous?”

Mother nodded her head and agreed with her. She tried to talk to Grandma about different things like the weather, but Grandma had a hard time staying on topic.

“Oh, Sarah. I wish I could drive again. My doctor says I’m not healthy enough to drive myself.” Grandma said. Grandma already said this to him and Mother before. The little boy was confused, but Mother agreed with her so the little boy agreed with her, too.
