Sam’s first baseball practice is Saturday at 11:00 am at Sunset Park.

Sam is so excited, he has waited a long time to be able to play baseball.

Sam gathers his brand new baseball equipment and runs out the door. He yells, “Bye” to his mom.

His friend Steve and his dad are waiting in the driveway to drive them to practice.

Sam excitedly gets into the car and Steve says “Hello, let’s go!”

Steve’s dad has a bright yellow van that Sam has always thought was really cool!

Steve’s dad drops them off at Sunset Park and says, “Have fun guys! Crush the ball!”

He tells them he will pick them up in an hour and a half and Steve’s dad drives away.

Steve says to Sam, “We’re the first ones here, so we will have to wait until our teammates arrive.”

They wait and wait, nobody else shows up. Sam says, “It’s getting late, we have been waiting too long.

Steve says to Sam, “I think you’re right. Everyone should have been here by now.”

A worried look is on Steve’s face. He says, “I think my dad left us at the wrong park or got the time wrong.”

Sam tells Steve, “Don’t worry, I have a plan. We know your dad will be picking us up, let’s make the most of our time and start practicing ourselves.”

Steve says, “How are we going to do that? We don’t know how to play baseball.”

Sam exclaims, “You throw the ball to me and then I will throw it back to you.

We can work on catching the ball.” The boys have a blast playing catch with each other.

After a while, Sam tells Steve, “Grab your bat and I will pitch you some balls so you can practice your batting and then we will switch.

Steve tells Sam, “That sounds great.” Sam pitches and Steve swings the bat.

When Steve hits the ball, Sam tries to catch the ball that he hits. Sam and Steve then switch positions.
