To my kindergarteners that I spend my day with and are always trying their best.
When you are 5 years old, you enter the world of kindergarten. The day is long and the chairs are small. There are buckets of brightly colored crayons neatly placed in the middle of all the tables. Small hands meet in the bucket when looking for that chosen black crayon.
The mornings begin with coat hooks, backpacks and purple folders. Supplies organized. Bright colors all over the room. The room is bright.
As you enter the classroom, quickly grab your breakfast and choose your seat. Boys laughing, girls giggling. Teachers saying "Good Morning". The morning is noisy.
Lights go off. The room goes gray. Collect your trash. Try to grab all your things without spilling your cereal milk. Line up, head behind head, no touching. Time for the bathroom.
Criss cross applesauce, hands in your lap, eyes on the teacher. I am ready. I am showing you that I am ready to learn. Eager eyes and listening ears. Poems, vocabulary, questions, turning and talking. White boards, word wall words, dry erase markers and the Good Writer's Checklist. Lots to learn and lots to remember.
Off to Work Board. At my table, I do my work and I help my friend. I wait for my name to be called to read with my group. Sight word games, Zap!, use your finger to read, don't forget to use the picture to help you. Lots to remember!
Lights off. The room is gray. Time for snack. My tummy is noisy just like the morning. Clean hands, juice boxes and goldfish.
Writing binders. Time to write. Think of a story. Think of an idea. Sound out, tap out, hear the sounds. Write the sounds you hear. Draw a picture to match. Its Writing time! Small pencils, pink erasers, bright crayons. Time to create.
