

Each rainforest is unique, but there are certain features common to all tropical rainforests. Rainfall: rainforests receive at least 80 inches (200 cm) of rain per year. A large proportion of the plants and animals in the rainforest are only found there and nowhere else in the world. For example a jaguar. The jaguar has spots so it can be camouflaged with its surroundings, like many of the animals in the tropical rainforest.
Tropical Rainforest
The tropical rainforest is a warm and moist place.
It has over 100 different types of trees.

The decomposition rate is rapid and trees only live up to 50-100 years.
Temperate Rainforest
The temperate rainforest is a cool place.
It only has about 10 or so different kinds of trees.

The temperate forest trees have needles instead of big, broad, glossy green leaves like in the tropical rainforest.
The trees her live up to 500-1000 years and the decomposition rate is very slow.

The tropical rainforest is very lush and wet. Rainfall falls regularly throughout the year. As much as 80-400 inches of rain is received throughout the rainforest every year. Topical rainforests are warm and moist all year long, and it never snows.
