There are 3 layers inside Earth. One is called the crust where we are standing on right now. The crust is very solid and has dirt on it. The other one is the mantle where solid rocks and some magma are, under the crust. Then there is the core where it's extremely hot. The core is right in the middle of earth. The outer core is made out of liquid iron. Then there is the inner core where its solid.

About Lava
Did you know magma and lava are different things? Well, they are. Magma is very hot molten rock. It's located in the mantle. The magma gets pushed and then it comes out of the crust and it turns into lava. Lava is also a liquid rock, but lava is out of the crust and magma is in the mantle. Lava can be hard like rock or it can be fluid like water or sticky like gum.

Convection Currents
A convection current moves magma around the earth. On page 61 on Plate Tectonics by Grolier Educational, it states that a convection current is, "The slow over turning of a liquid or gas that is heated from below." You might be wondering where the heat for the convection current comes from? Well, it comes from the inner core. The inner core is the hottest part of the earth.
