Visiting Jerusalem by Or Dayan
A group of Jewish tourists from New York decided to come to Israel.
They were going to start their trip in Jerusalem. The different places in Jerusalem started to argue who will ‘get’ the group first.
The tourists wanted to visit Har Herzl because in Har Herzl, Benjamin Ze’ev Herzl and more important people are buried. The tourists wanted to visit Machane Yehuda Market because it’s the only Market in Jerusalem. The tourist wanted to visit Yad Vashem because it teaches about the Jewish history of World War II. The tourists wanted to visit the Israel Museum because there are a lot of beautiful sculptures and it’s one of the biggest museums in Israel.
But in the end, they chose the “Kotel” because it’s the holy place for the Jewish people and because this is the only remnant that remains from the temple.
They started at the Kotel, but then, they went to see all the other places that argued. They had a great time.
Jerusalem Day by Shenhav Bitton
A group of kids came to Jerusalem and they needed to decide where to go first. The places in Jerusalem began to argue.
"I'm the best I'm the Israel Museum I have old stuff that people will love to see."
Shuk Machane Yehuda said: "I'm the best and I have special shops and I have yummy food".
"I'm the best!" the Knesset yelled, "They make laws in me and I have important people."
The Old City said: "No, I'm the best. I'm old and I have a lot of interesting things in me."
The First Station said: "No, I'm the best because I have nice restaurants and nice shows".
"I'm the best," said Mount Herzl: "I have the most important people for Israel and all the soldiers that died in Jerusalem are buried in me".
Everyone was quiet and the kids said:" What about you Hakotel? What do you have?"
Hakotel answered:" I'm small and not pretty. Don't choose me, I'm nothing".
The kids said:" No, we want you! Because you didn’t show off and everyone else did. And you are very special".

Jerusalem by Mishael Warshawsky
Inspired by Yitzchak Navon’s story: The Six Day War and the Seven Gates of Jerusalem
A group of tourists from Texas decided to come to Israel and did not know which place to visit first: the Israel Museum, Kotel, Knesset, Shuk Machane Yehuda, the Biblical Zoo, or Mount Herzl.
When these places heard about the tourists, they started to argue.
First, spoke the Israel Museum and said, “I have the most valuable artifacts!”
Then the Kotel spoke. “I’m the last standing wall of the temple, the most glorious building of my time.”
But then, came out the Knesset. “Pshhh, that’s good enough. But I’m the one people come to decide important things. I’m the best, I’m the best!”
Then, came Shuk Machane Yehuda and said, “At least I have some flavor in my life. I also have color and if you’re hungry, you will always find a restaurant in me.
Afterwards, spoke the Biblical Zoo. “I have animals that existed in the bible! Remember the song? LOOK AT ME I’M A BEAUTIFUL CREATURE? Even Neta Barzilai wrote a song for me!”
And then, little poor Mount Herzl said, “I don’t care about who the tourists are going to visit first. I’m just a sad graveyard. The sad parents and friends come to see their kids that died for Israel.”
Then all the places were quiet and when the tourists heard what Mount Herzl said, they chose to visit him first.

The Crocodile by Lewis Carroll
How doth the little crocodile
Improve his shining tail,
And pour the waters of the Nile
On every golden scale!
How cheerfully he seems to grin,
How neatly spreads his claws,
And welcomes little fishes in,
With gently smiling jaws!
Sneaky Snake by Shoshana Mintz
Kids Read 2018 Anthology winner
How doth the little sneaky snake,
Improve its shining fangs,
And eats prey that it takes
Behind a bush's bangs.
How neatly it slithers on stones,
And welcomes in some mice.
And the mice leave as white bones,
That doesn't sound nice.
Imitating the style of The Crocodile - Mitzpe Yericho 4th-6th grade:
Lazy Lion by Shalhevet Herskovits
How doth the mighty lazy lion
Improve his bushy mane
And takes slumber in a dusty cave.
When outside it is pouring rain.
How carefully he seems to yawn
And welcomes in some deer.
The deer don't leave down
But their body becomes lunch, do you hear?
The Dearest Donkey
by Nehorai Weinberger & Yaakov Michael Barak
How doth the dearest donkey,
Improve his rotten teeth,
And stomps and eats and goes to see,
A sneaky little thief.
How happily invites a man,
To climb up on his back,
And kicks him as hard as he can,
With a bite and a whack!!
The Octopus
by Temima Herskovits
How doth the little octopus,
Improve his terrific tentacles,
The sea serpents need a push,
To get to the octopus's knuckles.
