Customs and traditions are the personal approach that each nation brings to the European Union. Keeping them alive is the guarantee of preserving cultural values and of educating future generations in the spirit of our ancestors.
Folk dancing is an especially colourful and precious component of the overall picture. In our country students are taught at school or at students’ clubs to play traditional instruments and interpret traditional folk dances.
Our region being multicultural there is a great variety of national musical instruments such as the violin, zither or accordion for Romanian, Hungarian and German nationalities. National costumes are beautifully different not only by nationalities, but even within the same ethnic group according to geographical regions.
Children dress in national costumes to perform folk dances at school festivals, during partnership projects or on national holidays. On the 24th January, the holiday of the unification of two of the three state forming principalities, even adults join in a traditional national dance called ‘hora’, when people take each other’s hands and dance in a circle
