There are many Maori instruments that were used in ancient times such as the koauau, the putatara, the nguru, the putorino, and the pukaea.
Maori Instruments

The koauau is the most common of Maori flutes. It is usually made from wood, bone, or stone. Most koauau have three finger holes. They are known for attracting birds that sing along with the koauau, to welcome people, to heal broken bones, and to help memorize languages.

The Putatara
The putatara is a conch shell trumpet. It has a range of sounds it can make. In ancient legends it is said to be used for signalling when enemies were getting near. The putatara is an important part of Maori practices and spiritual beliefs.
