This is Jimmy. Jimmy is an animal called an aye-aye (eye-eye). All of Jimmy's family is beginning to become extinct. Which means that they're dying off and they began existing in smaller numbers until there are none left.

Jimmy and all the other Aye-Ayes live in the rain forest in Madagascar. This rain forest is filled with lots of plants and animals. The ground of the forest is shaded, but most of the animals live in the trees. The Rain forest in Madagascar is mostly always hot, with temperatures ranging from 70 degrees to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. The rain fall is also very high and ranges from 60 to 160 inches of rain every year. The rain forest consists of a wide variety of plants and different animals, housing 15 million species! Some plants that line the trees and the shaded ground are shrubs and vines, and some animals that roam the floor and stay in the trees are frogs, tapirs, and gorillas!

Jimmy and the rest of his species have a very distinctive look. They have big, bushy tails that can be brown or black, brown fur with white stripes, and yellow eyes.

His species eat a variety of food, so they're considered to be an omnivore. Meaning that they eat other animals, insects and plants. They're favorite foods are insect grubs, fungi, ramy nuts, palm tree nectar, and coconut flesh.

Aye-aye's have a special niche where they use their long, skinny middle finger to reach in hard to reach places and obtain food. Whats a niche? a niche is an animals role in the environment.
