
Harriet Beecher was a very strong and dedicated women. She was born on June 14,1811 in Litchfield, CT.

Her father, Lyman Beecher was a leading Congregationalist minister and the patriarch of a family committed to social justice.

Her mother was Roxana Foote Beecher and died when Harriet was four.
When Harriet was little she loved to read books and and one of her favorite books was The Arabian Nights.

Harriet attended to Sarah Pierce’s Litchfield Academy, which provided a traditional women’s education in decorative arts, music, and French but also had an academic curriculum.

As a student there, Harriet Beecher studied subjects like Latin and math that were usually taught only to boys. After finishing her studies at sixteen, she became a teacher at the school.
