Judaism is one of the oldest religions in history. The main teaching in Judaism is that there is a belief in only one God. God is spiritual and not physical.

The Torah scroll is the Hebrew Bible. The Torah contains the following 5 books from the Old Testament: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

The Synagogue is where Jews gather to pray and worship.

The spiritual leader of the Synagogues or a congregation is generally the Rabbi.

There are many beautiful and

important Jewish holidays

throughout the year. Rosh Hashanah and Yom

Kippur are the most important. These celebrate the Jewish New Year and the Day of Atonement.

Passover celebrates the Jewish people leaving Egypt.

Chanukah celebrates the Festival of Lights.

Shabbat is celebrated every Friday night and Saturday.

ROSH HASHANA

On Rosh Hashanah, Jews celebrate for two days with friends and family. Special meals are eaten, with sweet foods like challah bread and apples dipped in honey. Jews attend Synagogue to celebrate the New Year and to ask God for forgiveness for things they did wrong. You can hear a Shofar being blown in Synagogue.

Proper greeting for the new year:

 L'shanah Tovah Tikateiv V'tichateimu, which means, "May you be inscribed and sealed for a good year."
