To my class at J.R. Briggs, thanks for the inspiration to write this book.

Once upon a time there was a family of fish that lived on Pickles Reef. There was a Mama fish, a Daddy fish and three little fish. The mother and father fish taught their three little guppies all the important things a fish living on Pickles Reef needs to know to survive.

They taught them how to swim, they taught them how to find food, and most importantly they taught them how to avoid the big, bad shark. Soon the time came for the three little fish to leave their parents' home and build their own.

The first little fish swam to the far side of the reef where he built a beautiful sandcastle. The second little fish swam closer to the East Australin Current so he could build an adorable little clam shell shack. The third little fish took a long time carefully building his cute little cottage from pebbles in the sea anemone's garden.

The first little fish was quite happy living in his sandcastle until one day when the big, bad shark came swimming by. As the shark sliced through the water towards the little fish he quickly swam into his castle locking the door behind him.

The Big, Bad shark dove down to the door, knocked and said "Little fish, little fish let me come in."
The little fish answered "Not by the hair of my finny-fin-fins." The big, bad shark was hurt and angry so he said "Then I'll splish and I'll splash and I'll cannonball your house!"

The little fish did not know what to do, when suddenly he remembered the escape hatch he had built at the bottom of the sandcastle. Luckily, just as the big, bad shark cannonballed his beautiful sandcastle he escaped and backstroked as fast as he could to his brother's clam shack.

The second little fish was outside tending to his barnacle garden when his brother swam up to him completely out of bubbles. Before the first little fish could say anything to his brother he spotted the big, bad shark riding a wave over toward them. Without speaking they raced into the clam shack and closed it tight!

The big, bad shark dove down to the shack, knocked and said "Little fish, little fish let me come in."
The fish answered "Not by the hair of our finny-fin-fins."
Once again the big, bad shark was hurt and angry.
