
Once upon time a girl named Cinderella lived with her stepmother and two stepsisters. Poor Cinderella had to work hard all day long so the others could rest. It was she who had to wake up each morning when it was still dark and cold to start the fire. It was she who cooked the meals. It was she who kept the fire going. The poor girl could not stay clean, from all the ashes and cinders by the fire.

They were very mean to Cinderella, making her work all day cleaning, sewing, and cooking. She tried her best to make them happy.
The King wanted his son to find a bride. Every young woman in the kingdom was invited—including Cinderella!
She enjoyed giving Cinderella extra chores to do, such as bathing her cat, Lucifer.
One day, a messenger arrived with a special invitation. There was going to be a royal ball at the palace!
At the ball, Prince Charming couldn't take his eyes off Cinderella.
