The first Thanskgiving was in 1621. It was held in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

The first Thanksgiving was between the Wampanoag Native Americans and the Plymouth colonists from Europe.

The colonists from Europe were known as 'religious separatists' who were looking to practice their faith freely in the 'New World'.

The colonists came to the 'New World' aboard the ship called the Mayflower from Plymouth, England. The seas were rough and it took 66 days to reach the 'New World'.
They originally wanted to settle further south but ended up landing in what is now known as Cape Cod, Massachusetts and settling in Plymouth.

The first winter in Plymouth was brutal and many suffered and died. Only half the crew managed to see their first spring in the New World.
The colonists needed help if they wanted to survive in the New World...

Help came from an unlikely person: Squanto from the Patuxet Tribe.
