
Hair Follicle The functions of hair include protection, regulation of body temperature, and facilitation of evaporation of perspiration; hairs also act as sense organs.


Sweat Glands two types Eccrine and Apocrine. Eccrine controls body temperature. Apocrine is associated with hair follicles and lubricates skin.


Fat Stores energy, cushions and insulates the body


Connective Tisue tissue that connects, supports, or separates other tissues or organs. It is often with collagen or other fibers, and including cartilaginous, fatty, and elastic tissues.

Blood vessels Carry nutrients and waste to and from the skin and organs.

Hair Shaft simple structure made up of protein. The hair follicle anchors each hair into the skin. The cuticle is responsible for much of the mechanical strength of the hair fiber-protects cortex where melanin is present.

Pore Opening hair follicles. Each one contains sebaceous glands used for lubrication.

Nerve Ending Called free nerve endings they slowly respond to pain and stimuli in the skin.


Sebaceous Gland Small gland in the skin that secretes a lubricating oily matter into the hair follicle to lubricate skin and hair.
