What do good writer's do?

They think about their writing 

before they write. Some people 

call this brainstorming.

They find ideas from everyday things that 

happen in real life. They plan and think 

about writing about them.

Good writers have bold beginnings that 

bring writing to life!

Some ideas...

State a belief...

The school cafeteria should offer pepperoni pizza every day.

Use a single word...

Pickles, pickles, pickles! They were everywhere.

Share an interesting fact...

The bumblebee bat is the smallest mammal on earth.

Capture a moment in time...

            We were right at the top of the rickety roller coaster and 

started down at the top of the hill.

Describe a sound...

           Snap! Crackle! Crunch! Something heavy in lurking in the 

woods.

Ask an interesting question...

Have you ever wondered how many dogs you can 

walk at one time?

They use descriptive words to paint 

pictures for their audience.

A smile she couldn't fight was permanently 

stamped on her face. She just lit up! 

Butterflies busted into her stomach! She 

was so happy, she cried!

Good Writers add dialog. 

Dialog is when characters talk to each other in 

your story. 

"That’s my cat," Missy told the fireman. "She’s 

been missing for days. Her name is Patches."

Good Writers show action with their words.
