Chloe and Colin were always sure to be the best of friends. They knew each other when they started out as eggs, or small round spheres that would eventually hatch to be caterpillars. The eggs grew on the same leaf.

On one beautiful morning, Chloe and Colin's eggs hatched! They now enter the larva stage, or become caterpillars. They were so happy to finally meet each other.

Chloe and Colin did everything together. Mostly, they ate together. They knew they had to eat to grow big and strong enough to eventually grow their chrysalis. This helps them grow to be butterflies!

One day, Chloe looked over at Colin. She saw he was growing something in the tree! It looked like Colin was finally growing a chrysalis! He was entering the pupa stage.

Chloe wondered why she was still in the larva stage. It didn't seem fair. She didn't like the way she looked as a caterpillar, and she knew she wouldn't even be able to talk to Colin for what could be 3 weeks!

Chloe watched as Colin was forming into a butterfly in his chrysalis. What was awesome was she could see him forming through it! Chloe was still so sad though, and didn't know what to do to make herself form a chrysalis.

After about 21 days, Colin's chrysalis hatched and he emerged as an adult butterfly! His wings have to work a little bit to warm up before they can start to fly. Chloe was so happy to see her friend Colin, that she didn't even care that she wasn't a butterfly yet.
